Types of Dust Collectors

dust collector

Dust collection is an essential part of a number of industries. It removes contaminants, harmful matter, gas fumes, and dust from the air.

It also helps control worker discomfort and reduce physical injuries. This makes it a valuable tool for employers and employees. It also improves productivity and worker morale.

Filtration System

A filtration system is one of the most common types of dust collection equipment. It removes particles from the air to prevent them from getting into your lungs and causing health problems.

In addition, a filtration system keeps the air in a room fresh and clean. This helps reduce odors as well.

Filtration systems are usually sized by how much air they need to circulate and the amount of static pressure they need to maintain.

These types of systems are a good choice for dust that is below submicron level. They also help prevent particles from becoming trapped in ductwork.

Blower or Fan

A blower or fan is an essential part of any dust collection system. They can be designed in a variety of designs to fulfill various functions and capabilities.

Using a blower in place of a cloth can be much more efficient for cleaning electronic equipment and gadgets with delicate parts. It also saves time and effort.

Blowers can be categorized into different designs, such as centrifugal and axial fans. They can also be powered by an electric motor or an internal combustion engine.

Blowers can be used to move air at low to high pressure for various purposes such as exhausting, aspirating, cooling, conveying, and ventilating. They are mainly used in industries when the pressure requirement falls between the fans and compressors.

Cyclone

The Cyclone is a small, stand-alone dust collector that uses centrifugal force to remove large particulates from the airstream. These machines are ideal for applications that require a mixture of large and small particles.

These cyclones can achieve high separation efficiencies, typically separating 99% of dust particles that are greater than 10 microns in size from the air stream and depositing them into a collection bin.

Cyclone systems are ideal for large industrial plants and facilities as well as smaller woodworking shops that are dealing with a mix of large and fine particulates. These systems also help prevent unnecessary wear and tear on baghouse filters.

Baghouse

The Baghouse is a large industrial-scale fabric filtration system engineered to collect and separate harmful particulates, dust, and gasses from the air at processing and production plants. It’s an important piece of equipment for many industries, including coal handling, cement fabrication, metal fabrication, pharmaceutical, chemical processing, woodworking, recycling, waste incineration, and grain production.

Dirty air from a duct is pulled into the baghouse, where fans on the outside of the housing blow the dirty air through the filter media (bags). As the air passes through, solid particles are captured and suspended in the bag media, while clean air passes through.

Cartridge

A cartridge dust collector has pleated filter cartridges that capture particulates before they are discharged through a pulse-jet cleaning system. This type of collector is ideal for applications that require small particle filtration and a small footprint.

They are particularly effective for welding, laser, plasma cutting fumes, and pharmaceutical dust. They can handle sub-micron particles and work well in high temperature conditions.

Cartridge filters are also much easier to change than baghouses, allowing maintenance workers to access the filters without having to enter the collector or climb inside of it. This allows them to remove clogged cartridges without touching the particulates, which can be harmful for employees.
